This strategy could not help them to establish peace and harmony in the society, and even the natives would be more brutally enslaved and exploited. The captured or enslaved resembled Caliban who wanted to depend on a jester Trinculo and a drunken butler Stephano to kill his suppress Prospero to retake the ownership of this island. Shakespe bean plays are highly associated with the then current issues of the society. To be precise, the play The Tempest clearly depicts the class structure of the era with Prospero being at the top, Ariel in the middle, and Caliban at the rase end. Many postcolonial characteristics are showed in the drama called The Tempest. Although all characters may not influence everyone, at least a few characteristics will affirm a kind of influe nce on the reader or viewer. The two characteristics that would touch every reader are the master and the slave and The identity of postcolonial. The master Prospero plays a significant role, making plots to protect his daughter and to avenge his enemies. Personal narrative Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2000 words
Personal narrative - Essay ExampleHe wanted to study English to help with his university coursework. My motivation was more casual. I was simply interested in learning a little spoken Thai and a little about Thai culture. I wasnt interested in learning to read or to write Thai. This narrative will concentrate on the application of Cambournes prerequisites of learning to my language exchange experience. These prerequisites, or conditions of learning, are immersion, demonstration, expectation, responsibility, approximation, employment, result and engagement. As noted by Cambourne, these conditions of learning do not exist in isolation. Rather, these conditions are intertwined. A learners ability to approximate the chump behavior, for instance, may be difficult or impossible absent immersion or demonstration. That said, the eight conditions set forth a clear analytical framework for assessing my Thai-English language exchange. compactness refers to the depth and the comprehensiveness o f the learning or literacy experience. It refers to the extent to which the learner is saturated by the learning experience. It also involves, in important ways, questions of authenticity. In my case, immersion was soberly lacking. As a result, it was difficult to approximate the modeled behavior, the spoken Thai, and my expectations were consequently diminished. My instructor was a native-speaker of Thai. He was well-educated and well-prepared for our lessons. From the point of view of immersion, however, he was my doctor authentic connection to the Thai language. In the background, during our lessons at the coffee shop, there was English music playing on the radio. Everything, from menus to posters on the wall to the conversations at beside tables, was in English. Trying to focus on my Thai lessons was at times a distraction. It seemed external to the physical and cultural environment. In short, the lack of the immersion chemical element affected in a significant way my total lea rning experience. The lack of authenticity and the lack of a broader learning exposure to the learning goals go forth me feeling a bit hopeless about learning to speak Thai.Demonstration Creating Realistic and Practical SituationsThe second condition of learning, the demonstration prerequisite, concerns the modeling of the target behavior. This modeling may be formal or informal. My Thai instructor was rather creative in this respect. He brought magazines to our meetings and used them as belief aids. I recall nonpareil lesson where we studied shopping and prices. He brought a clothing catalogue, a Thai silk catalogue, and a Thai cooking book as teaching aids. He handed me a worksheet in which he had typed English inquiries such as, How much is a coke, with the Thai equivalent written alongside in English script. He modeled the correct pronunciation, made relevant grammatical distinctions, and created a salesperson-customer role-play for the clothing and silk catalogues and a wait er-customer role-play for the Thai cooking book. We took turns playing each of the roles. This was one of the most beneficial aspects of my learning experience. I was able to demonstrate what I had learned in a fairly realistic way. The context in which I was able to demonstrate my knowledge, based upon my instructors models, was also quite practical. My instructor downplayed the theory in his presentation and modeling. As we were

The second treatise of government Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words
The second treatise of government - Essay ExampleAccording to Machiavelli serviceman nature should not be given full autonomy. If this happens in that respect is a creation of an ignorant population that may challenge the reign of the prince. In this case the prince represents the leader. The prince had the authority to subroutine whichever form of leadership as extensive what is under his command remain controlled. In one of the most controversial inclusion in his book is the justification of use of violence in leadership. He justifies the use of force in controlling and eliminating political opposition and rivalry. The use of force coerces the resistant individuals and control strong men who have the ability of contend the existing leadership. He similarly justified the use of violence when it came to introduction of power and implementing new laws and regulations. In his argument people responded more effectively to the use force than any former(a) form of approach (Waldron , 45). It is from his negative political approach many public institutions and bodies criticized his pieces of literature. The Machiavellian approaches were termed as enemies of democracy and leadership as they promoted dictatorship and the use of crude ways of leadership. Humanists, activists and religious institutions disregarded the literature used by Machiavelli. Machiavellis views on security and corruption are also based on who is at power. The authority should provide people with security. However, the security should be offered when the people are opposing the leadership o f the land. disregardless of the conduct of the leader, the people should be respectful to the leadership of the land. There are numerous instances where Machiavelli disregarded the nature of human rights. The nature of human rights is based on the fact that leadership should be based on the view of the citizens. The general view of a leaders should be created by the nature of is environment. Additionally , the modes used in leadership should not be crude and undemocratic. Machiavellis view is in deep contract with these views. In his view, a leader should not be changed by the nature of his environment but come up with changes that will suit his character (Waldron, 123). Even if the change is negative and unfair to the people, the leader should find other ways of implementing this change. According to Waldron human rights should be the most considered factor when coming up with policies of leadership (34). The author further argues that disregard of the nature of the Human rights what is created is not leadership for the people but leadership dictating the people. Dictatorship n itself is a negative aspect of the society. Leaders using this mode of leadership are enemies of liberty and democracy. The people should have a voice in which they give their responses to the kind of leadership they want. Machiavellis proposition of using violence is also a study hindrance to achieving lib eral societies. His approaches were viewed as what human activists were against. However, looking at the literature by Machiavelli in another perspective brings out another scenario of his arguments. It is an obvious presumption that any leader should be able to control the people under his command. This means that regardless of what he does, the people should not surpass his authority. It is a human to create opposition and resistance. An effective leader should be
